## Understanding Evolution

Evolution is the primary progression system. Each species has two elemental mutation branches. Evolving changes elemental alignment, abilities, and appearance. Each species has approximately 20+ evolution choices.

## Evolution Requirements

1. **Level Requirement** — Reach the required level for the species
2. **Mutagens** — Earned by completing expeditions and surviving challenge arenas
3. **Branch Selection** — Choose which elemental path at each branch point

## Evolution Strategies

### Early Game
Focus on leveling your starter and unlocking the first mutation branch. Try different elemental paths to see which playstyle you prefer.

### Mid Game
Plan your endgame team. Prioritize evolving voidlings that will remain useful in the Abyss.

### Late Game
Save rarest mutagens for S-tier species evolutions. The Mutated Perk at the end of an evolution tree can fundamentally change how a voidling plays.

## Tips

- Choose the mutation branch matching your playstyle, not just the "stronger" element
- DNA splicing carries through evolution — optimize genes before evolving
- Mutated Perks at the end of trees are game-changing
- Element matchups matter significantly on higher difficulties
